BUICKS IN THE WORLD OF...

lame basketball game and the 4 pro players pile into a '73 Riviera
to help the game out. (Submitted by Chris Barton)

Barton)

a promo with an out-of-shape '68 convertible Skylark. (Submitted
by MajKemper@aol.com)
- The Tonight Show with Jay Leno originally
opened with a montage of LA, which featured Jay turning onto
the NBC Burbank Studio Lot driving what appeared to be a two
tone red & white '55 or '56 Buick Century or Roadmaster
convertible. (Submitted by Sherman Ward)
- During the beginning of the old show Hill
Street Blues, they show a 1972 Skylark parked on the street
as a police car races around the corner. (Submitted by Brad
Rezac)
- Brodrick Crawford, in the 60's TV show Highway
Patrol, drove a
Buick and made the term "10-4" famous. This is why
October 12th is National Brodrick Crawford Day. (Submitted By
Tom Sansbury)
Music
- We currently do not have any songs about
Buicks, but we welcome your submissions
Celebrity Owners
Movies
- A Corot Beige '38 Special Sidemounted Convertible Coupe Model
46C appears in the classic 1940 movie "The Grapes of Wrath"...
There is also a black '38 Roadmaster Phaeton Model 80C in the
film. (from Torque Tube, the news publication for members
of the 1937-38 Buick Club)
- A '38 80C also appears in the 1940 W.C. Fields
movie, "The Bank Dick." (from Torque Tube)
- "The Ice Storm" has some nice shots of a
1971 Riviera. (Submitted by Sugi)
- In Steven Seagal's movie "Out For Justice"
they used a Grand National in a chase scene and even tried to
call it a GNX. (Submitted by Steve
Roberts)
- In "Breaking Away" the kids cruised around
town in a '70 -'72 Skylark coupe. A beater but still a Buick.
(Submitted by Steve Roberts)
- In one of the first scenes when "Jim Douglas"
takes the VW out for a ride and is about to merge onto the freeway.
"Herbie" balks and gets the shakes he then reverses and hightails
it off the onramp cutting off a white '65 Riviera in the process.
(Submitted by Chris Barton)
- "Last Boy Scout" with Bruce Willis used a
'72 Riviera. (Submitted by Chris
Barton)
- The movie "Excess Baggage" with Alicia Silverstone
has a 72' Riviera. (Submitted by Chris
Barton)
- There is a Buick convertible in "Rainman."
Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise crossed the country in it....looked
like a mid 50's roadmaster, ventiports and all.... (Submitted
by Brian Quinn)
- The two youths in "My Cousin Vinnie" were
in a '64 or so mint green skylark convertible (withOUT positrac
as we found out later!!) When they were confused with "the murderers"
in a similar Pontiac Tempest, getting themselves on trial for
the murder of the convenience store clerk, Joe Pesci shows up
with Marisa Tomei in his early 70's cadillac convertible to
defend them....Marisa won the best supporting actress oscar
for her role in this movie....memorable lines: "Oh, yeah, you
blend!!" and: "My biological clock is tickin' like a time bomb,
here!!" (Adam adds, "It's YOUTS not youths!") (Submitted by
Brian Quinn)
- There is a beautiful '49 Roadmaster that
was the star of the MGM film (probably shot in '95) with Nick
Nolte, Chaz Palmenteri, Michael Madsen,& Chris Penn....."Mulholland
Falls". The car is black with red leather interior, and a tan
convertible top with maroon piping. She is the quintessential
Harley Earl chrome battle-wagon. (Submitted by (and car owned
by) Sherman Ward)
- The Oscar winning "Rainman" featured a creamy
pale yellow '49 Roadmaster. Dustin even states some facts and
figures for us......."only 8091 production models built......"
& the classic " ....straight 8....Fireball 8.....". The
video version of this film has an interesting trailer produced
by Buick featuring Anthony Edwards delivering the introduction
of this film. He walks and talks through a couple of different
models and then presents the car from the film. Buick apparently
bought sponsorship of the release of this movie on video. (Submitted
by Sherman Ward)
- In "Pleasantville," the car that the central
family unit of the plot owns is a beautiful 1949 Buick Roadmaster.
Because of the "no color" storyline, you can't really appreciate
how gorgeous this car is. But, there is a big scene in which
things start to "come to life," and they reveal this brilliant
yellow Roadmaster tooling along down a beautiful country road.......and
man, oh man....what a car!!!!!!!! (Submitted by Sherman
Ward)
- In the movie "Escape from L.A." The "king"
of the city tools around in a '59 Buick with chandaleirs hanging
on it! (Submitted by Ron Smith)

David Dunbar Buick whose company originally made engines. After
a couple cars had been made and several owners later, the company
